Off Campus Safety

I made the decision to move off campus with three of my closets friends, ideaistically  thinking it would be a smart move. But now that we are into our third week of the semester I realized I didn't fully plan things out.

I live in a three floor building right on Broad St. , there are 7 apartments in my building and so that makes 26 people living in the building. That is 23 people that I barely know , which leads me to believe they are capable of anything. It has always been an issue on campus that there aren't enough blue light stations for security purposes but now that I live off campus I realized that I wish there was even one blue light station around my apartment. This town is awfully small but that doesn't make it any safer. I recently had an incident in my apartment were I now am forced to be precautions of everything. Even after the police were notified they barely brought any justice to the situation. I am trying to find solutions to make off campus living safer for college students because ultimately we are still in college and for certain students very far away from home.

With all the burglaries , break-ins and the whole Kodi situation I feel like the town of Plattsburgh needs to create a tactic to ensure that the students paying for college should feel safe and secure.

  1. I agree with this! I live downtown, and just a couple weeks ago my neighbor was stabbed and killed right in front of me. It's scary living on your own, with very limited safety reassurances.

  2. I thought live off campus must be a lot of fun. But now it sounds like everything has two sides.......but anyway, live with close friends are so nice~~~~~~~~

  3. I absolutely agree. Blue light stations downtown in the intersections would be a very efficient way to call for help if assistance is needed.
