Online classes are in my opinion , are not very helpful for a couple of reasons. Lets begin with the fact that there is not a teacher in your presence so you have to work and focus harder on the material. In class if you happen to have a question you can raise your hand or wait till after class to receive clarification but with online classes its all through email. You have to email your professor in hopes they email you back in a decent amount of time, hope they understand what exactly your question is and can explain it with just with words on a screen to the T.

Online classes shouldn't be online...
I can see how online classes are convenient or helpful to a student who is overly busy or lives a fair distance away from he institution but I just do not see the sense in online classes if you live on campus or close to campus.

It probably works for a lot of students but I am not one of them. With my personality I need to be in a class , in a studious environment and with the professor in my face ( that is usually why I sit in the front of the class). I am currently taking a online class and it is not my strong suit but hopefully I surpass this challenge with an A.

For students who live on campus, they like to have online courses because they can easily do the classes on their own time and use the resources they have so closely at the school. For example, Library Skills. I took that class online because I didn't see a point in sitting in a classroom for an hour and half that I would leave just to go to the library and do what I can do when it's more convenient for me. English classes are nice to take online too, especially the writing courses since you're on the computer all the time anyway. But I do agree there are some online courses that are pointless such as Math. Unless you're a math major and can do it in your sleep, using an online calculator is terrible and impossible to use during a timed online math class.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Online classes have never worked for me. I just don't have the focus to do everything by myself. Also, I find that the professors are not as responsive as when the class is face-to-face
ReplyDeleteI took an online math class over the summer, and it was so difficult. The professor was extremely hard to get a hold of, and I struggled. I agree, sitting in the front of the classroom and having the professor right in front of you is so much easier than having to self-motivate online.
ReplyDeleteThere are pros and cons of taking online classes. I think the distance is not one of the main factors to determine whether you should take online courses or not. It mainly depends on students' understanding of subjects and study behavior of students. Regardless, I do believe that there are subjects that cannot be taught online.
ReplyDeleteI think online classes can be difficult, but they can also be beneficial. I have taken a few while here in Plattsburgh and I did enjoy them and appreciate that we have the option for it. I took a majority of my gen ed courses online, which I thought was great because I did not have to sit in a classroom for a course that I probably wouldn't have enjoyed. Yes they do require a lot of time and patience, but once you get into it and the motion of the course it all works out.
ReplyDeleteAs a guy that needs questions answered in class, I think there's no way that I could get through an online class. At least, not successfully. The whole point of a class is to have student-teacher interaction. I don't see how this can be accomplished if the crux of communication depends on how often the instructor cares to check their email account.
